Living safely with COVID-19

COVID-19 continues to spread on the Island. The risk of catching the virus increases when cases are high.

If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, including COVID-19, and a high temperature or feel unwell, please try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people. Only get back to your normal activities when you feel well enough and you no longer have a high temperature.
If you have a positive COVID-19 test result you should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days (or 3 days for young people aged 18 and under), which is when you are most infectious.

Taking precautions like this will help keep our community safe as we learn to live safely with COVID-19.

Important advice
  • Get fully vaccinated. Vaccines remain our best defence against the virus and can reduce the risk of serious illness and help stop the spread of the virus.
  • Meet outside and let fresh air in if you meet inside
  • Consider wearing a face covering in crowded or enclosed spaces
  • Keep regularly washing your hands – for 20 seconds or more
  • Remember good hygiene basics – covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
  • Get help if you need it. Contact the Isle of Wight COVID-19 helpline on 01983 823600
  • If you have symptoms or confirmed COVID-19 it is strongly advised that you stay at home and avoid contact with other people. If possible, please don’t go to work if you are ill.
  • If you feel unwell (not just COVID symptoms), stay at home and protect friends, family and the community from illness.
  • If you have symptoms, please think about vulnerable Islanders including your friends and family. Avoid close contact with anyone who might be at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell if infected with COVID-19 and other respiratory infections.
  • Support local business and stick to their COVID rules
  • Consider others and be kind

If you’ve been in close contact with someone with COVID-19, please read this NHS advice.

Treating COVID at home

If you have COVID-19 it’s important to know how to look after yourself. Find out about treatment at home.

Choose the right health service
  • If you are feeling unwell speak to your local pharmacist and visit NHS 111 online for medical advice.
  • Call NHS 111 first and only call 999 if it is a serious or life-threatening condition or injury.
NHS COVID pass

The digital NHS COVID pass shows your COVID-19 vaccination details or test results. This is your COVID-19 status.

You may be asked to show your pass to travel abroad, or at events and venues in England asking for proof of your COVID-19 status.

You can also get a paper copy of the NHS COVID pass by calling 119 or applying on this page. The paper copy covers your vaccination status only.

Local Outbreak Management Plan

The Local Outbreak Management Plan (LOMP) sets out measures to prevent any further local outbreaks of COVID-19 on the Island as well as action to respond rapidly to any outbreaks, limiting further spread.
